Whether your one of the many lonely housewives in the UK, in the mature dating side of life or new to the dating scene or online dating, I feel safety is a concern to everyone, especially as the start of a new encounter.

I know I was when I started dating again so I set myself some rules to date by, for my own peace of mind.

Its always best to find out as much about the person before you meet them, be sly and investivagative.  Always find out their full name, what they do and where they work.  Its all the basic initial questions you ask to start with to build conversation.  Once you have this information use the internet or phone book to call the work place and ask for them, just to verify they are who they say.

I also always get their telephone number and call them at least once, again as a little piece of mind that the number they have given you actually gets through to them.  I know your probably thinking its all a bit silly, but its all just a little common sense and a bit of looking after you.

Whether your date is a result of online dating or through personals make your first meeting in a public place and go for a breakfast date.  I go for my date in a café just around the corner from my friend’s house and I give my friend the following details:-

I suppose a lot of people still feel very guarded with friends and family that they are trying to find someone using online dating service, but please think about your safety, you only need to confide in one person for a little of security.

Don’t rush for your first meeting, talk on the phone or by email and find out as much as you can in that way to see if you have things in common.  Listen to your gut feelings, if this one doesn’t feel right, there’s a chance it isn’t, trust in yourself and move on.

Even if you think my dating rules are a bit strict, be true to yourself and set your own to follow.  Have fun and be safe!!!
